Physical Touch | The 5 Love Languages
Whether you’ve been married 50+ years or you’re newly engaged, the 5 Love Languages are guaranteed to enhance your relationship! If this is your first introduction to the Love Languages and learning how couples show and receive love differently, please start here.
Now, before you go thinking this is a PG13 post- this is not THAT kind of physical touch 😉 … Physical Touch as a Love Language is any kind of touch that communicates positive emotions to your loved one. It is not necessarily PDA either, it is more common that a person who receives love this way places a high value on small and intimate gestures such as hand holding, kissing, hugging, rubbing your fingers through their hair, or just cuddling. Rick is huge on this one! After a long day, he cares nothing more than to sprawl out on the couch, and lay his head in my lap while I rub my fingers through his hair! Seriously, he’ll be snoring in less than 15 minutes! It’s just his happy place. After several years of marriage, we still often ride in the vehicle holding hands or touching in some way, too.
So if you have a spouse or fiance that tends to touch a lot… odds are that is how he or she receives love. Give it a shot, return the small physical gestures and see if it doesn’t fill up their “love tank”! According to Dr. Chapman, the more you deposit tidbidts of love into each others “love tank”, the more full and joyful they will be! And that makes for a happier and more content relationship! Now, who wouldn’t want that?
